Peter Batey OBE 贝彼德

Peter Batey OBEI am Chairman of Vermilion Partners Limited, a private equity and corporate advisory firm I co-founded in 2004. Prior to establishing Vermilion, I served as Chairman of APCO Asia Ltd and Chairman of Batey Burn & Co. Ltd. I have lived in Beijing since 1986, initially as Arthur Andersen's Chief Representative in China, then, from 1989, as Chairman and co-founder of Batey Burn, which was acquired by APCO in 1999. I have advised on the establishment and expansion of dozens of joint ventures and wholly foreign invested enterprises and on the acquisitions of Chinese companies by foreign investors, both industrial and financial. I am a director of Shuijingfang, a public company listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, and have served as non-executive director of numerous foreign-invested enterprises in China.

I was Chairman of the China Index Fund, a fund which invests in B-shares listed on the Shenzhen and Shanghai stock exchanges, until it merged with the LIM China Opportunities Fund in 2007. I am currently a Director of both the LIM China Opportunities Fund, which also invests in the H-shares of mainland companies listed in Hong Kong, and the LIM Asia Alternative Real Estate Fund, one of the only hedge funds investing in Asia's booming property market. I acted as Senior Advisor to the Lord Mayor and the Corporation of the City of London on China from 2005 to 2008. I was also Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce in China from 1994 until 1996. In June 1997, I was awarded the OBE for services to Sino-British investment and trade in the Queen's Birthday Honours List. I was one of a small group of businessmen who established the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China in 1999, and served successively as Vice President and President from 1999 to 2002.

I am currently Chairman of the Great Britain China Centre, a non-departmental public body charged with developing dialogue between Britain and China on constitutional matters, human rights, justice and the penal system, employment practices and civil society. I am also a member of the Board and the Executive Committee of the China Britain Business Council. I was educated at Keble College, Oxford and was previously political private secretary to Sir Edward Heath, the former British Prime Minister who re-established full diplomatic relations between Britain and China.
