The website at www.chinesespeakers.org ("the Site") is operated by the Association for Speakers of Chinese as a Second Language of  Department of East Asian Studies, University of Leeds, Leeds LS2 ("we" or "us" or "the Association").

We may ask you or others to supply us with various information about yourself during your use of the Site. We use that information to allow you to be able to make full use of the Site and to give you a service that suits your preference.

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions about the way in which we use your personal information please be in touch via our
Contact Us page. If you would like to make any changes to your personal information, please refer to the relevant section of the Site.

Your privacy is very important to you and us. We are committed to protecting your privacy and we shall only use data relating to you in the manner set out in this privacy policy. We will only use your personal information in a way that is fair and transparent to you. 

We will only keep your information for as long as we are either required to by law, or as is relevant for the purposes for which it was collected.

Data that we collect 

We collect information when you (or someone on your behalf) becomes a member of us, registers for access to a restricted area of the Site or subsequently visits the Site. This information includes your name, user name, password, e-mail address, other information submitted by you and from time to time other relevant information. We need this information in order to process and deliver membership or Site benefits, to send you relevant information about us or the Site, and in case we have any queries. 

Other uses of your personal information

We may use any of the information which you provide to us in order to send you information about the Association and related activities which we think would be of interest to you. If you would prefer not to receive particular information, please contact us to let us know.

We do not disclose your personal information to any third parties unless we are required to do so by law.

We may also use your personal information to customise this website in line with your preferences and to help us understand the way in which users use and visit this Site. 

Further, we may use your personal information for the purposes of Association surveys and improving this Site.

GDPR

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a comprehensive European data protection law that provides greater data rights for individuals, including Association for Chinese Speakers as a Second Language (ChineseSpeakers / the Association) members. This law came into effect on 25/05/2018. We strive to ensure the best possible security for our members, including transparency and accessibility of members to their information. For further information on the GDPR please visit this site, we have summarised the main points and how we comply below:

1.  The right to be informed – Please read the above Privacy Policy, if there is anything further you want to know just get in touch

2.  The right of access – We only hold what you can see on your profile screen, accessible and editable by you

3.  The right of rectification – members are able to amend their personal data direct through the ChineseSpeakers site or by contacting us

4.  The right to erasure – members can amend or delete their personal data as they see fit through their profile on the ChineseSpeakers site (note: deleting all the info will not delete your log-in, to completely remove yourself from the Association please contact the ChineseSpeakers Team)

5.  The right to restrict processing - members can delete any data you don’t want processing; we do not process any personal data for marketing purposes, nor do we pass information on to third parties

6.  The right to data portability – you can access all your data through logging on to the ChineseSpeakers site and are free to retain and reuse your personal data for your own purpose

7.  The right to object - in certain circumstances, individuals are entitled to object to their personal data being used. This includes if a company uses personal data for the purpose of direct marketing, scientific and historical research, or for the performance of a task in the public interest. We do not use personal data for these mentioned reasons, should you have any related queries or objections, please contact us

8.  Rights of automated decision making and profiling – automated decision making and profiling is not currently used by ChineseSpeakers

 


Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy 

1. The Association for Speakers of Chinese as a Second Language (ChineseSpeakers / ASCSL, ‘The Association’) is committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion throughout the organisation.

2. The Association’s aim is to represent its members[i]. All members must be treated with equal respect and included in all Association activities. Members, partners, and those assisting in the delivery of our services should be made aware of this policy and encouraged to promote equality, diversity and inclusion with respect to the Association’s activities. The Association will ensure that no member is subject to any form of conscious discrimination in relation to the Association and its activities.

3. The purpose of this policy is to provide the guidelines for equal, fair and impartial treatment of Association members, partners, and suppliers irrespective of individual status or circumstance.

4. The Association opposes all forms of conscious discrimination. All staff, whether full-time, part-time, temporary or voluntary members, partners and suppliers will all be treated with equal respect. The Association commitments to:

·         Create an environment where contributions from all members are recognised

·         Zero tolerance towards member intimidation, bullying or harassment in any form

·         Equal opportunity for members to promote and access training, development, employment and other activities made available through the Association

5. The Association will actively encourage member participation in our governance structures to reflect the diversity of our members.

6. The Association will encourage a similar level of commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion by members, partners and suppliers in the delivery of our mission statement and objectives. 

7. This policy will be monitored by the Association’s Secretariat and will be periodically reviewed to ensure it remains fit-for-purpose.
